They will be awarded to the candidates having the six highest number of votes in their districts, after the grand prizes have been awarded, therefore they ire having six big contests in one, and everybody has a chance to win a prize, and no candidate will receive more than one prize- Any of these prizes are worthy of the little effort required to become the proud possessor or any of ihem. Elsewhere in this issue will be found a nomination ballot and a | daily ballot. All you have to do is to clip these and fill in with your own name or that of a friend and send it to the Contest Department of the News and Courier, arid they will send you full particulars, and material needed in your campaign, and tell you how to secure votes. They have a number of little ways in which they assist candidates. All you have to do is to ask the contest man. The contest has just started, so don't delav. It will be the candidates who get in now and get busy among: their friends and acquaintances, and get them to subscribe to the News and Courier. Once you show them you are in^ terested, you will be surprised to see how many subscriptions you will secure. The subscriptions count for votes, and votes decide the winners. Did Not Cause Division. Editor Dillon Herald: Please allow me space to correct the article that was published in the Herald last week relative to the division in the Graded School, seven years ago stating: that my election as principal, caused the division. I was principal of Little Rock school at that time. In order for none to be mistaken I'll state the cause: When it was announced in 1902 that Rev. W. R. Muldrow was elected principal of the school, a preacher called a meeting: at his church and divided the school. I took charge of the school in the fall of 1903, with a previous enrollment of 135 pupils using only two rooms. i&suriug my nrsi lenn i was compelled to use three rooms with an enrollment of 261 pupils; later it was found that the school buildin? would not hold the children, hence I was compelled through many disadvantages to annex an other room employing1 five teachers instead of two, which will prove whether I caused any division or not. All the trouble we i have had this year has been caused by an inefficient preacher who has been preaching for more than thirty five years. He has been lost for words in the pulpit and fe his subject has been the Graded School and who should teach it. Lord help such a man. One mean preacher can disband more pupils than the good prealhera of the state can bring back* Now a large number of members of the M. E. Church claim that they must have a change in their management if not the church will be & divided, aad if a change is made we hope that the oqe that comes I : will know Ma place and stay in it. i A.
