1K. H. AUL L, tITOR. WHAT STRONGER ARGUMENT? Postoflice Inspector Veaser rec ominended that a rural route b< not established from Chappells to points in Saluda county on accoun of bad roads. What stronger ar gunient could be made for goo< roads than the mere statement o the fact. The route had been pe titioned for and was badly needed. It is against the law to sell o: even to give away toy pistols or caps This law was passed by the las legislature. It is now Christuina time and yet they are still telliity us that the last legislature did nol accomplish anything. THE PRESENT SCHEDULES. Mr. W. H. Tayloe. assistant pas senger agent of the Southern, was in Greenwood last Friday lookiig after the schedules on his road which are so unsatisfactory to the people of this place. Mr. Taylc said he had received stacks of letters about them and that it was the pur pose of the management to satisfy the people if possible. We told him that we had seen one newspaf -r that had spoken favorably of the present schedules. "For gracious sake let me see it," lie said. We hunted up The Newberry Herald and News, and the article was read. This one harmonious note was so pleasant to him that he asked us to give him the paper which we did -Greenwood Journal. We are very glad that Mr. Tay loe knows a good newspaper when he sees it. But the fun meant to be poked at The Herald and News aside, it makes us weary, very weary, to see the newspapers in all the little towns above Newberry kicking against a schedule because the daily papers do not reach their towns as early in the day as formerly. Have these editors who are supposed to be run ning papers of their own nothing to do except read the dailies? Are the editors of the little dailies, like the one in Anderson, for instance, so in love n\ich their big city broth ers, that they like to see the big dailies covering the local field better than they can do it themselves? Schedules are not arramgd to carry iewspapors. It seems to us that the convenice of the travel. ing p)ublic anid the connnuercial i'i terests of a town should outweigh icoivnveece experilen ced in re ceiving mail. The schedule is the best we 1have ever had. Let it stand. If the editor of the Journal car not live in peace without reading~ the Cohnnmlu and Charleston dailier early each day he might mnove tc Coh nnbia or Charleston anid receive themi at 3.30 a. mu.
