The rush of cotton on the market has forced down the price below ten cents, and unless the cotton is held ofr the market the price will go to seven cents in a few weeks. Since the market first opened cotton has fallen off in price about twelve dol lars per bale, and unless the receipts fall off the end is not yet. The mat ter of price is entirely in the bands of the farmers. Appeal mi Chestnut Case. Solicitor Hildebrand has been not ified by the attorneys of R. Chestnut, who was convicted of manslaughter at the last term of Court, and senten ced to fifteen years' imprisonment for the killing of ^V. R. Sabin, that an appeal will be taken from the judg ment in the case. The defendant is allowed thirty days in which to per fect his appeal, and the case will be passed upon by the Supreme Court in December. Grounds of appeal are not disclosed in the notice. The freight depot of the Southern Railway at Blackville was destroyed by fire last Friday night. In addi tion to the depot several box cars were burned and with them nearly three hundred bales of cotton and other goods. The citizens of Black ville responded to the alarm and sav ed about twenty-five bales of cotton, but the rest went up in smoke with the other contents of the depot.
