Yesterday morniug will long be re
membered by the citizens ofMomphis,
as it gave to Chera a street pageant
wbicb so far exceeded that of any
Circus ever in our city aa to remind
us of the Mardi-Gras turnouts, con
cerning which our readers are so well
posted. In point of artistic merit,
brilliant equipage, novelty of design
and variety of interest, to say nothing
of its magnitude, the street display of
Howe's London circus und menagerie
yesterday was superior to any effort of
the kind ever witnessed in this city.
In realistic ebbet and impression the
features of yesterday's procession com
mand the praise of all who beheld its
sparkling line, and will elicit most
favorable comment from the most,
critical of the spectators, those whose
jeathetio Culture and high apprccia.

recognize its excellence and merit.
The procession started nt half-past
nine o'clock, aud by the time it turn
ed into Main street the walks ofthis
thoroughfare was densely packed with
interested, spectators. The crowd at
Court square aud vicinity was so
large that it wos difficult for pedes
trains to move from one point to
another. In fact, a* the proces'dou
came by, the people in their eager de
light rushed up close to the chariots,
cages and horses, as if impelled with
a desire to seize hold of whatever they
could lay their hands on. We have
not seen such an outpouring of the

It is no easy task to give a just and
merited description of the pageant; it
wne something ahove and beyoud the
usual ostentations of a circus, for it ex
hibited both taste and elegance, and
illustrated much which the generality
?of people would naturally admire as
they. would nppreheud it, but which
only the educated can aprcciato,
justly, no they would comprehend its
characters properly. It was a uaticc
able fact that tho pageant attracted

indeed were the private carriages con
taining elegant Indies, pretty children
and -wondering old people, whose
hearts were gladdened hy tho exhibi
