SKETCH OF PRESIDENT JOHNSON.-The following sketch is furnished by a corres? pondent of the St. Louis Iiepuhlican: "Of erect and clastic form, about five feet nine inches high, and well proportioned; of compact, flexible and powerful muscle, ho impresses thc critic as a man of almost limitless activity and endurance, and, per? haps, of enjoyment. Pifty years sit light upon him; hu moyes as in his prime, and seems never to rest. His complexion is brunette; his hair is dark, but adorned with dots and lines of silver; bis dark eves are brilliant when at rest, but, when im? passioned, are as glowing coals of fire; tho crow-feet of years are near them, and glasses of Brazilian pebble mark th" de? cadence of summer light of life. His fea? tures are positive and decided \ his expres? sion is vivid as sunshine glancing through crystal prisms; yet care and thought are 'chiseling their atlas on his manly face and brow. I have heard ladies affirm him the handsomest of our national dignitaries, and should you ever meet him in the social circle and converse with him, you will doubtless endorse their opinion. Without ostentation, his apparel is chaste and elo ?ant; without vanity, he parades no super uoii8 ornaments of taste: neither a fop nor a clown, yon remark him as the digni? fied and finished gentleman in mode and manners." THE FREEDMAN'S BUREAU.-Gen. Grant said, in his rece?? report, that the Freed? man's Bureau was a present necessitv, but seemed to be operated by tho different agents of the Bureau according to their in? dividual notions. Gen. Howard, the Com? missioner of the Bureau, in view of this assertion, has issued a stringent orderth.it the most thorough inspection shall be ut once made, and tho evils complained of corrected. ... - i?. -,- . . Thc Secretary, it is stated, approves tho designs, and thc coins named made hereafter will bear this legend. The smaller coins do not afford room for the words. The history of Mexico shows that during the last forty years, Mexico lias had thirty seven different forms of government, thirty-two ot which were republic and seveuty-live Presidents.
