Religions.
Our friends will observe in our Religious
column that Bishop Early, 'of the'. Methodist
Episcopal Church, South, will preside at a
District meeting of that denomination at Cattle
Creek Camp Meeting, early in October*

Legal.
On Thursday last, an interesting case was
lieaad. before his Honor Judge Glover, at
this place, in behalf of Mr. Joiin Percival,
of Liverpool, England, who was brought up on
Habeas Corpus. It appears that LlZARDi &
Co., merchants of London, entrusted large
consignments of goods to Messrs. Campbell &
Percival, of Liverpool, for sale. Messrs.
L & Co., charge that Percival sold some of
these goods at a sacrifice, and pawned tho rest
at their full value, and left England with the
proceeds, amounting to. about $100.000. All
this is vehenieutly deuicd by Percival.
Tho history of the case is this : Tho plain
tiffs brought au action in ease against the said
Percival, and he was arrested, in default of
bail ^ilje^amou.nLjyf ?100,000. and held in
custody by the Sheriff of Charleston Distriot.
The defendant was discharged from this arrest
by order of Judge Moses in Charleston, a few
weeks ago, in accordance with Order No. 10,
of the New Code. Thereupon the plaiutiffs
brought an action in trover for the same cause,
pad ro-nrrested the- defendant.
After able argument before his Honor Judge
Glover, in which participated J. Barrett
C?hex Esquire, for the Defendant, and James
W. Wilkinson Esquire, for the Plaintiff, his
Honor ordered the discharge of the defendant
from arrent, on the ground that a second arrest
for the same cause of action was illegal, espe
cially' without a discontinuance of the first ac
