THE WATCHMAN WEDNESDAY, DFC 25. A. Ai SILBERT.EDITOR flt?* The Sumter Watchman has the Largest Circulation (especially in the Surrounding Country) of any paper in Sumter, and teas Established in April, 1850._ ?ERBT CHRISTMAS AMD A HA PP Y SEW YtAB ! This ve seed greeting to al! our pa frons and friends, while making many acknowledgments for courtesies, indul? gencias and steady support during the passage of another year. May bright faces, harpy smiles and good cheer crown every fire side. Life's joys and pleasures atc few aod fleeting. With hearts uplifted in gratitude to the Great Giver of ali good, let us partake of them, innocently but freely, as they pass THE TAX LEVY-QUICK WOK IC. The Tax Bill finally passed the Legis lature on Friday last, and the order to collect was sent to the County Treasurers the next day. It levies a tax of fifteen mills, to wit : Five mills for current expenses, two mills for public schools, five mil's for "deficiencits," and three mills for county purposes. On its passage, a bard fight was made to tack on to it two mills more for "de? ficiencies,'' which W&S defeated only by . strong rs'!y of the conservative ele? ments ot the body. The notice of the County Treasurer, printed OD another column, informs the Tax Payers that his office will De opened for collections on the first day of January, and tbst the penalty wilt be added after the fifteenth of the month. This is quick work. We doubt if the Treasurer, without much clerical aid, could receive and receipt for all the taxes of the couuty within that limit of time. CURE FOR MSiCVOrjSNESs. A correspondent of the Practical Farmer says ; *'I hare known many men, aod women too, who, from various causes, had become so much affected with nervousness that when they stretched; their hands they shook like aspen leaves 0:1 windy day?? ; and by a daily moderate use cf thc blanched foot stalks of the celery leaves as a salad, they became as streng and steady in limbs as other people. I have known others so very norri.us that the least annoyance put them in u state of agita t?o , who were ia a'mcst constant per plexify snd fear, tod wi 0 wrre effect 0 ? 1 ly cured by a daily moderate o?e of blanchfd celery as a salad at mea! tin e. I have kuown others cured by using celery for palpitation of thc heart." tSF Uer ry S-anloy has delivered Iiis first Ijgjare in New Wuk.
