It is supposed that it pulled a burning splinter out of tho stovo and set Eire to its clothing. Whon observed by its mother the child was enveloped in flame. Mrs Johnson quickly ran to it and-smothered tho flames by wrapping her own clothing about it. Or tSapp was summoned and is attending the littlo one. Proceedings of tho Cotton , Growers* Convention. The Lancaster county cotton 1 growers' convention met at the j court house at 12 o'clock. Jan. 14. The meeting was called to order by Pres. T. J.* Strait. The call was read and the object of the meeting stated. The President j appointed the following as com-: mittce to suggest delegates to the I national convention which meets 1 in New Orlea s on Jan. 24. 25 and 26: Capt. S. K. White, Col. R, K. Allison. W. B. Plyler, C. L. McManus and D. A. Williams. The above committee recommended as delegates to New Orleans Col. Leroy Springs, C. L. McManns, W. N. Clyburn; alternates?1). A. Williams, K. B. Lingle and T. J. Strait, who v ere elected by the convention. On motion of D. A. Williams the convention adopted a resolution instructing the delegates to advocate before the convention the plan of 10 acres to the plcw 1 and not nv re than 300 lbs. commercial fertilizers to the arm Also to advocate the county ware house system to store their cotton.
