Cotton (irowers Issue Address. An tippeul for Cooper at i ?n to Meet tho EtTorts of (.) lUi hers to Control the prices. At a meeting of tho cotton growers hold ? tho city of Coluincia on the 26th day of October, l'J04, no, the undersigned, were appointed a commilto to prepnro an address to tho eotton growers of Eolith Carolina. We desire, to state most emphatically that this is a business organization pure and simple that there is nothing secret or hidden in reference to reforenco to its business; its sole and tingle object is to secuie for cotton grwors such uniform prio ces as will properly compensate them for the labor and capital in vested. Realizing that cotton is the cunency of the south and that here industrial welfare is do. pendent upon tho price of it, we thereforodnvito tho aid of every cotton producer, and all business and professional nictidn the state. We further recognize tho fact that tho cotton manufactures aro desirous of maintaining a stable price for cotton and wo believe 4-1- 4?l* mai mis organization will promoto tho interest of the cotton manufacturers of the south. This is an i.go of combination and organization. Other agricultural organizations have been able to lix and maintain a stable price for tho commodities to tho mutual benefit of producer nud consumer and have successfully climinu tod the demoralizing influence of tho violent fluctuations consequent upon reckless speculations which have proved so disastrous to tho producer. Wo declare it to be a necessity for the welfare ot the cotton growers of the south to organize for the purpose of protecting tho raw material. We wish to impress upon tho cotton growers the fact that they put upon the market within 90 days tho buik of their crop and desire tho commercial world to take it at its full value; to take the risk of storing, the expense of insuring, the loss of interest for nine wonths without compensating the puchaser whereas com - mon sence would teach them that in order to realize the highest price they must carry theae risks themselros and place upon the market their cotton as the trade requires it,in other words, instead of selling their cotton from Sopteuiber to Decomher, we prote-t that it is common eeuso and business to perfect a plan by which wo may sell it from Sept to Sept. To this unfortunate custom of dumping our cotton on tho market in so short time regardless of demand.or price is largloy due tho unromunerative pricos to the producer. What is tho remedy? Millions of dollars uro waiting profitable investment is good sec^ uritiea. The world knows and conceives that there is no better security than cotton. Hence a plan bp which the cotton can bo retained in the hands of the producer and used as a collateral upon which ho can secure money at a reasonable rate of interest to moot pressing debt", enables him thereby to place his cotton upon the market at such time and in uch quantity us the price justifies is most desirable. To this end wo ask the cotton ? . producers'.in every county inSouth Carolina to meet in Columbia for the purpose of formulating a specific plan to carry out the ideas above suggested and to perfect an organization which will maintain cotton at such price as will properly compensate tho grower. YVe congratulate the cotton growers of this State that othor cotton producing Statos are organized to maintain a slahl and remunerative price for cot ton. Willi this end in view \v< suggest that in each county th< cotton "I'dwors assemblo ant send two delegates to Columbii >n Thursday, November 10th 1004.
