The government's report of the cotton ginned up to Dec. 1st was made public yesterday afternoon. The figures are 8,684,800 bales. There was an alarm of fire in town Thursday morning about 10 o'clock. The fire proved to be on the roof of the Tillman hotel and was caused by the burning out of a chimney. The flames were extinguished before much damage was rtnno o ^ "O'O was some damage by water, however, in the central office of the phone company, located in the second story of the hotel. The fire, by the way, emphasized Lancaster's great need of a system of water works. The Sick. Maj. J. M. Kiddle, who has been quite ill, suffering from an attack of erysipelas, is rapidly improving.
